Slave Rules

Slave codes were laws made to control behavior of the slaves. Slave owners were able to whip or physically punish slaves. Slaves could not hit white people, own property, buy or sell goods, leave the plantation without permission, could not learn to read or write, and they must get permission to marry. Slaves were very lucky to have a deference owner. Slave owners disillusioned slaves reading and writing.

how did slaves Resist Against Slavery?

Slaves resisted against slavery by refusing to obey owners, refusing to work, worked slowly, broke farm tools, learned to read and write, escaped the North using the Underground Railroad, and they would rebel against their owners in groups.

The code's preamble was "to protect slaves other Goods and Chattels." The code was to protect slaves against cruel things. It provided more protection for the slave masters. The slave owners were required to give the slaves  one set of clothing per year.

Slave Codes

The owners made blacks and their children property. In some colonies it was illegal to teach slaves to read and write. Conversation to Christianity did not qualify the slave freedom. The "black codes" or "slave codes" would appear during and after the Civil War area.
